On Saturday September 19, Barry Conrad, Dita Conrad (sister), Cara Donner and her friend Mindy, along with Richie Conrad (brother) visited a reported haunted farmhouse on Mann Road near Eaton, Ohio.
The house was apparently built in the late nineteenth century, and it is bordered by a cornfield and several trees, while several old barns still exist on the property. Owned by Douglas and Nancy Groh, the house has had several tenants over the years, but few stayed long since an array of poltergeist-like activity had been reported there.
Among the phenomena were banging noises heard coming from a rear upstairs bedroom, numerous footsteps on the main staircase, as well as mysterious old-time music emanating from the walls of the old home.
During my first night there the house appeared empty, as there is no longer any furniture inside. Outside the house near the cornfield stood an old oak tree that seemed to be our first success as far as obtaining anything on film. Both mine and my sister’s digital cameras recorded numerous orbs of light, some big, some small, around the tree. I made sure to shoot rapid follow-up control shots to insure that there was nothing noticeable in the way of dust particulates in the air. There were none, as it was a tranquil, wind-free evening.
Later, as we gathered near the staircase, I recorded numerous lights manifesting in a downstairs sitting room as well as the main living room area that included a very ancient fireplace. While all of us were near the stairs a loud bang was heard in the fireplace room which startled all of us. Upon investigating we found a paint-stir stick lying near the door leading to the kitchen area. It was apparent that someone or some “thing” had hurled the stick at the door.
When Cara Donner and her friend Mindy checked a voice recorder that we had left on earlier in the rear upstairs bedroom, heavy breathing could be heard on the recording.
Back at the stairwell we decided to try and experiment by turning off all the flashlights (the house had no power) as we thought we might listen for any strange sounds. With a digital Canon Power Shot camera set to movie mode, I kept it running as we kept vigil for several minutes, when suddenly I thought I spotted a greenish light darting by in the living room. After training the camera in that direction for several moments, I called out to the suspected entity.
“Hello, is that you? Are you there?” As I walked closer into the pitch-black room I felt the sensation that something was watching me, but I couldn’t be sure. Later after checking the playback of the camera, I discovered a trio of glowing firefly-type lights that appeared briefly then darted away in unison. It was as if they were alive and cognizant of our actions.
Upon leaving the home shortly before midnight a coin was propelled over my left shoulder and bounced off the kitchen cabinets, abruptly landing on the floor beneath. Upon further inspection the coin was a nineties dime, which might very well have already been lying around inside the farmhouse somewhere. However it was apparent that the coin had been deliberately tossed at me by something intentionally.
On the following night (Sept. 20) I was accompanied back to the house by several friends (Gary Boehm along with Jamie & Gary Emenaker).
The atmosphere was what you might expect in a Dracula movie, as rain and lightning swept the countryside around Preble County. Everything appeared quiet except again as had happened the evening past, we began picking up light orbs near the old oak tree. Other orbs were again recorded inside the home, but little else occurred until later in the wee hours when we attempted to communicate by knocking on the floor with a flashlight hoping that the ghosts might follow suit. At first there was no response of any kind, but later we could hear soft rapping sounds coming from outside the walls of the house.
CONCLUSION:  We have yet to do a follow-up, but we plan to do so in the near future after we attempt to learn more about the house’s history. There is no doubt that something of a paranormal nature is present in this farmhouse because of the preponderance of orb recordings.
