Photos like the one shown on the left were shot by Mark Pelcarsky during a 1992 visit to an old mining town near California’s Death Valley. They might possibly represent the rarest of paranormal evidence: an actual apparition caught on camera! While exploring the rear kitchen area of an old hotel, the photographer began to notice a strange mist taking shape near a tattered screen window. Alerted, he began shooting these images that might best be described as a shrouded apparition resembling the ‘grim reaper’. Mystified, Pelcarsky moved closer to the ghostly image and according to his testimony, the entity turned slightly and looked directly at him as if aware of his presence. Frightened and shaken, the photographer fled the hotel never to return.
l These photos have never been seen until now and the two gentlemen present were not ghost hunters. Philip Rebentisch and Mark Pelcarsky were working on a coffee table book at the time called “Vanishing America”.
